Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Second Circuit nominee Susan Carney and sent her to the full Senate for a vote. The committee vote was 16-2, with two Republican Senators objecting. Their objections focused on Carney's lack of courtroom experience. I have posted about that debate around here. My take: it's a valid complaint, but shouldn't necessarily disqualify someone from the bench. Using that as a guideline, I can understand why the vote was not unanimous. On the other hand, it's a little disorienting for me to see Republicans make valid objections to a nominee, as opposed to the silliness that surrounded Chatigny's nomination.
More details on yesterday's vote here.
There is still one open seat on the Second Circuit without a pending nominee.
