The Supreme Court also decided a front end case today. And it's a biggie. In an opinion from Justice Kennedy, the Court holds that it violates the Eighth Amendment ban against cruel and unusual punishments to sentence a juvenile offender to life in prison without parole when the crime does not involve murder.
I'll update this post with a link when it's available. I had to add a new category for this one (meaning that cruel and unusual punishment cases don't pop up very often).
UPDATE: Here's the link. It's only for the Graham decision. There was an additional case heard at the same time (Sullivan), but it appears to have been decided separately.
UPDATE II: The Court issued a per curiam order in Sullivan. The appeal was dismissed as cert. improvidently granted.
