Just wanted to note that the Second Circuit issued an opinion today in a 2255 case in a case called Matthews v. United States. I have previously mentioned my feelings about 2255 motions. And there are some situations where a decision in a 2255 case will impact a 2254 case. But this isn't one of them.
Nevertheless, like Connick, it's related on some level (collateral proceeding, certificate of appealability was granted, one section away from 2254 in the United States Code). And it's kind of a fascinating discussion of capital punishment procedures in the federal system. post Apprendi For these reasons, I thought I'd at least give the link (that will expire in 30 days).
